What a great facility to attend a fun out of town meet! This past weekend 40 athletes traveled to South Bend, IN to swim in the Irish Aquatics Summer Spectacular that was hosted at the University of Notre Dame. Many fast swims were done, including a new team record for Payton Dunn in the 800 Meter Free. She broke a record that had stood since 1990! The 76th CSP Summer Invitational was threatened by weather all weekend, but in the end, the swimmers won out! We had over 800 swimmers and some 20 teams, from five different states. CSP had the largest entry ever, with over 200 athletes attending! We also went with a Swim Your Own Age format for the 12 & Unders, which resulted in many new meet records, many more awards and lots of best times! Wow! We don’t know what else to say at this point about the results from the meet this past weekend at the Rec-Plex. CSP showed up in force, with more than 150 athletes attending. There were NCSA Junior Cuts, Sectional Cuts and Zone Cuts achieved and even a new team record! With over 75% best times as a team, the coaching staff couldn’t have been more pleased. The Long Course Meet Season has officially begun for the CSP Tideriders! This past weekend, our team participated in two different meets. The Elite Squad traveled to Bloomington, Indiana to participate in the Bucceto’s Open. This was a prelim/final meet where the Top 24 came back and competed. Gabby Vieira achieved a 100 Fly NCSA Junior Nationals cut, and Sarah Finlay did as well in the 200 Back. Last week was our 35th annual CSP Tideriders Award and Recognition Dinner and we were filled to capacity. It was a standing room only event! Colleen Young has been traveling and swimming with the Paralympic National Team in Scotland and Germany over the past two weeks. Today at the German Open Colleen set a new American Record in the 200 meter Breaststroke. Congratulations Colleen!
Colleen Young has been named to the USA Team that will swim at the 2014 Pan Pacific Para-Swimming Championships. The meet will be held this August 6th - 10th in Pasadena, California. Congratulations Colleen! This news comes as Colleen is preparing to leave on Tuesday for Glasgow, Scotland and Berlin, Germany to attend both the British Open and the German Open swim meets representing the USA as a member of the USA Para-Swimming National Team. This past weekend Colleen Young competed at the 2014 Spring CanAm Paralympic National Meet in Miami, Florida. Colleen did a great job winning 6 of the 7 events she competed in, placing 2nd in the other event. Colleen won the 100 and 200 Breast, 100 and 200 Back, 200 IM, and 400 Free in the S13 catagory. BRIAN L. FINLAY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND The Brian L. Finlay Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established at CSP by an anonymous donor. This Scholarship is to memorialize Brian’s involvement in competitive swimming as both an athlete and as a parent of CSP swimmers. At our annual team’s banquet, a graduating senior who will be continuing their swimming career, will receive this scholarship. *Donations are welcome, just send a check into the office and note that it is for the Brian L. Finlay Memorial Scholarship.
