We took 56 qualified CSP athletes to the 2023 Spring Central Zone Region VIII Championships at the University of Missouri this past weekend. We were the biggest team at the meet with 58 teams representing Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and small parts of Iowa and Illinois. CSP went into the 8 & Under Championship this year as the defending champs. With 55 athletes entered in the meet, CSP brought more swimmers than any other team. By the end of the meet, CSP once again came out on top. Since 1996, CSP has won this meet 26 times! Deon Saunders won the Boys High Point Award at this meet, with Jason Lai finishing in 4th. With a week left before Sectionals, CSP sent a limited number of swimmers to this year’s Senior Champs and swam to a strong second place finish. CSP won their 6th straight Ozark Division I Champs Meet this past weekend. We are the only team to achieve this feat twice, and one of only three teams to ever accomplish six in a row (Sugar Creek in the 80’s and Parkway in the 90’s). We also went on to win all six of the age groups at this meet, which in recent history, we don’t recall this ever being done before! It was an incredible meet, with many new Ozark and Team Records as well as countless High Point Winners. Alex Snyder a member of our Elite Group and a Senior at Nernix has given her verbal commitment to Trinity College. Trinity is a private liberal arts college located in Hartford, Connecticut. Alex will join the Bantam to swim and study in the Fall of 2023. Trinity is a NCAA Division III college that competes in the NESCAC conference. CSP had 6 members of our Elite Group attend Junior Nationals at the University of Texas this past week in Austin, Texas. Jackson Bradburn, Caroline Foltz, Max Marcus, Josh Noll, JD Suarez and Graham Zucker all competed at Juniors. Max Marcus set the 15-16 and Open records for both our team and Ozark in the 500 Free. Amelia Dino, a member of our Senior II Group, a Senior at Vizitation Academy, has given her verbal commitment to attend Union College. Union College is a private research university located in Schenectady, New York. Amelia will join the Dutchmen in the fall of 2023. At this past Ozark A Championships, CSP was proud to earn two Ozark Coaches of the Year. We had three coaches nominated, one at each level. After nominations, each team in Ozark had a vote to determine who the Ozark Coaches of the Year were. David McCrary was nominated and won the Ozark Senior Coach of the Year. Lanette Imig was nominated and won the Ozark Developmental Coach of the Year. Chris McCrary was nominated as the Age Group Coach of the Year.
