CSP Wins Division I Champs!
The 2013 Ozark Division I Champs will go down as one of the closest meets in a long time. After Friday night swims, CSP was in third place, 29 points out of second and 86 points out of first. Following Saturday morning swims, CSP fell further behind, being outdistanced by 83 points for second and a whopping 137 points out of first.
Then we came to Saturday night finals. We went in to Finals that night with more swims than any other team, and our swimmers stepped up and performed amazingly! By the end of the night, we were still in third place, but now we were 49 points out of second and 51 points out of first. After morning swims on Sunday, the gap was even narrower than the night before, with CSP 17 points out of second and 27 points out of first.
On Sunday night of Finals, CSP went in a total of 119 swims, while the first and second place teams each had 77 and 86 swims respectively. We knew at that point we had a strong shot. After the first event of the night, the 10 & Under Girls 100 IM, we had pulled in to first place and from that point on we just increased our lead with each event we swam. By the end of the night, CSP had amassed 3527 points, which was 114.5 more points than the second place team. No team has come from third place to win this meet on the final day. What an amazing performance by every single one of our swimmers.
CSP also had two new records set this weekend. On Friday Night, Lexi Daniels, Erin Kelly, Melissa Melnick and Audrey Kelly set the team record in the 800 Free Relay. On Sunday, Erin, Melissa, Audrey and Natalie Crocker broke the team and Ozark Record in the 200 Free Relay.
We also want to recognize all of the parents in the stands. Each night at Finals when CSP had a swimmer announced, you could hear the parents cheering on that athlete. It was great as coaches knowing that we had whole other group of people cheering on our Tideriders. The kids did an outstanding job with the posters, and we by far had more spirited posters than anyone in the meet! Our meet officials are always a huge help on deck. Thanks to Joanne Graham, Tania Hillmer, Rob Jurotich and Fred Miller for all the hours you put in at the meet this past weekend.
Most importantly, thanks to the athletes. Each swimmer in this meet outperformed every team. We had 110 athletes, which is more than anyone else had. We also had more individual swims and more relays than any other team at Division I Champs. We had a number of athletes who came back from all sorts of different ailments to shine.
When we say it was a team effort, this couldn’t be more reflective than the results of the Age Groups. We won the 10 & Under Girls Age Group, and placed second in the 10 & Under Boys, 11 – 12 Girls, 11 – 12 Boys, 13 – 14 Girls and fourth in the 13 – 14 Boys. With that being said, 10 & Under Boys were only 18 points out of first and the 13 – 14 Girls were only 4 points behind. Unbelievable team effort for sure, and as coaches we were proud of each and every swimmer that participated!
